WHEN PEOPLE HELP PEOPLE, CHANGE HAPPENS.
Please help by investing in the future of our community. Your contribution buys trees from Florida nurseries to restore our Parks and greenspaces. You're not just buying a tree...you're also planting the seed of Hope & Healing within our community. THANK YOU! *Although these funds will be designated to RetReePC for replanting, your receipt will show a contribution to the Panama City Florida Disaster Relief , Inc. (a 5013c set up in the wake of Hurricane Michael)
Panama City, FL has been a member of Tree City USA for the past 28 years and as a result, our mature oaks and pine canopy were as much a part of the character and allure of Panama City as are our pristine Bays and shorelines.
On October 10, 2018, an estimated 1 Million trees (80% of our tree canopy) was destroyed in just under four hours. Most of the trees were snapped 10 feet or more above ground level due to the 155 mph sustained winds. As of March 2019, 3.1 Million cubic yards of vegetative debris has been cleaned up within the City limits, with an estimated 1 Million more remaining. To put that in context, that equals approximately 32 years worth of debris that would have normally been collected in just over four months.
ReTreePC, a program by the City of Panama City, is about reinvesting in our tree canopy, strengthening ties among neighbors, restoring our parks and greenspaces, and encouraging hands-on volunteerism. Our mission is to lead the way by planting 100,000 trees in Panama City by 2025. The replanting effort is a community-wide initiative to include all segments of our community, from elementary students all the way to senior adults.
Whether through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth and on social media...we THANK YOU! We can't accomplish this goal without the help and support of people like you!
